Exsiccatae is local-first. Photographs and audio are identified entirely on your device and are never uploaded. Your sightings, locations, recordings, life list, journal, and outings are stored on your iPhone — there is no account and no server-side copy of your observations.
Photo and birdsong identification run on-device. The photos and recordings themselves, your precise GPS locations, and everything in your journal never leave the phone.
Only anonymous species-name lookups (to fetch names, taxonomy, and family from our cached GBIF facade), and — for the “expected nearby” list — an approximate location rounded to about 11 km. Never your photos, recordings, precise location, or any identifier.
No account, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no profile of you. Sharing a sighting or exporting an outing to eBird is always an explicit action you take — the app never submits anything on your behalf.
